Cathay Pacific Airways said a passenger on flight CX712 to Hong Kong from Bangkok assaulted a flight attendant on April 16 as the plane neared arrival and was restrained by the cabin crew and two passengers.
There “is no evidence whatsoever” that the attack was part of a terrorist attack, the Hong Kong-based carrier said in an e-mailed statement yesterday. While the airline is grateful to the passengers for their help, it said it hasn’t offered them free air tickets for life, as some media outlets reported.
One cabin crew member was slightly injured in the incident and was released the same day after hospital treatment, Cathay said. While the two passengers who assisted crew were slightly injured, they didn’t require hospitalisation, it said. The remaining 396 passengers on the flight were unaffacted, it said.
Police detained the passenger who made the assault for further investigation, it said.
