We are pleased to announce that the Maritime and Aviation Training Fund has been expanded to include people who were laid off during the pandemic.

We consider this a sensible move that enables affected individuals the opportunity to increase their language proficiency, gain professional qualifications and increase their employability.

This means that the following will be able to benefit from our courses and claim reimbursement of 80% of course fees. people in full-time employment in the aviation sector with a local organization/company at the time of application. people who have left their employment in a local organization/company of the aviation sector on or after 1 March 2020, and re-employed full-time by a local organization/company of the aviation sector at the time of application, which must be submitted on or before 31 March 2022.

Most of our work is for pilots, but we also have courses for the complete range of airline/airport roles.

This includes -

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, please take note of the following arrangements.

English courses for aviation professionals 

Face-to-face classes for commercial pilots / ATCOs are now being conducted in our Learning Centres albeit with restrictions on numbers following the HKSAR government guidelines.  Online support will be provided to airline students subjected to quarantine requirements.

Courses for aviation professionals eg ICAO Aviation English for Commercial Pilots / ATCOs, English for Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and Technicians and English for Airport staff will continue but online classes are available

AEROSTAF testing for airline clients will continue on an appointment basis.

English for general and academic purposes

Airline / airport staff considering a career change or further academic study may consider our IELTS course.  Aviation English Asia Ltd teachers have delivered this course since 2006 mostly for learners attending flight training overseas, but other learners have attended this course for specific language practice. These classes can be scheduled online or face to face depending on HKSAR government restrictions.

English courses for aviation pre-professionals

In view of the resumption of airline cadet programmes, and the massive demand for pilots, classes for Cadet Entry Pilots are now resumed.  We also intend to resume the Basic Aeronautical Knowledge Certificate Programme in Spring 2022, which will be supplemented with relevant English language training to prepare candidates for flight training. Opportunities for flight training will be provided only when the pandemic subsides.

Train to become an accredited Aviation English Teacher / Rater

Aviation English Teacher and Aviation English Rater courses are now being offered to airline and airport language departments.  Please note HKSAR quarantine requirements of 7 days mandatory quarantine if you are attending in Hong Kong.  Unfortunately video conferencing technology is not suitable to facilitate the practical modules of the courses.  Therefore it will take longer for candidates to achieve the standards required for the Aviation English Organisation license.

Student health

Students should not attend classes if they develop fever or any respiratory symptoms.

As health and safety of the aviation community is paramount, students are required to wear a mask, conduct a temperature check and maintain good personal hygiene and proper social distancing. Class size will be limited to meet HKSAR government requirements.

Those who fail to comply with the stated Hygiene Requirements will not be allowed to attend in-person class / examination.

Aviation English Asia Ltd is proud to announce our partnership with Hong Kong International Aviation Academy.

The Hong Kong International Aviation Academy is established and managed by the Airport Authority (AA).

The Hong Kong International Aviation Academy (HKIAA) is Hong Kong’s first civil aviation academy. Partnering with local and overseas education bodies, vocational training institutions, industry practitioners and other organisations, the HKIAA offers a comprehensive aviation-related curriculum – including summer day camps, placement programmes, professional certificate courses and more advanced programmes.

HKIAA has a vision of establishing Hong Kong’s position as a regional civil aviation training hub by providing educational programmes and practical hands-on training for the aviation industry. Together we will partner in providing English language courses for aviation professionals in Hong Kong and around the region, which will nurture young talent and provide career advancement for the continuous development of Hong Kong’s aviation industry.

The first course to offered is Essential English for Airport Service Providers & Agents, which is a 30-hour/ two-hour-a-week course is designed for personnel who are involved in daily airport operations to enhance their English language communication skills. The course takes an interactive approach to learning with activities based on a variety of ground, in-flight and airport scenarios.

It focuses on developing the listening and speaking skills that are required for routine and non-routine scenarios using aviation related vocabulary and phrases, as well as plain English.

The course is MATF reimburseable.
