A UK businessman has paid a sky-high $162,000 for a nose cone from a British Airways Concorde.
The property magnate, who wished to remain anonymous, bought the nose of supersonic passenger jet to hang on the wall of his London home, the London Evening Standard reported.
“It’s definitely going to retain its value. It’s a very, very rare thing. It’s a great piece of British history,” said the artifact’s previous owner Andrew Lamberty.
“It looks super-cool – it’s a real piece of James Bond-style finishing.”
Lamberty, 41, bought the cone from the British Airways museum.
Concorde, which was retired from service in 2003, featured a “droop” nose design that was lowered during take-off and landing to give pilots a better view.
“It’s a very nice object in itself,” Lamberty added. “Often when things are designed to go at high speed, they’re often very beautiful too.”
