"When controllers and pilots better understand that language is an imperfect medium and is easily misinterpreted, they will be careful in their use of both standardised phraseology and plain language - and the airways will be safer because of it."
Brian Day - Secretary of the PRICE Study Group
Understanding the communication cycle and realising that an intended meaning does not always reach the receiver is an important first step in reducing misunderstandings. Misunderstandings can occur due to a number of reasons including garbled transmissions, errors in readback, non-standard phraseology, inappropriate vocabulary, unclear pronunciation, and confusing or imprecise syntax. It is a duty of all parties to take steps to guard against such misunderstandings.
Aviation English Asia Ltd courses incorporate activities to reinforce checks against miscommunication, directly built into the Learning Method.
