It depends on your starting level and what your target level is.
For each learner your needs are going to be different, so instead of offering one very long course with a fixed price, Aviation English Asia courses are divided into stages of 10 x 60 minute units each. That way, you can just complete the stages that you need to reach your target level, and take additional levels when you are ready. ICAO Aviation English courses have 200 units in total, and are divided into 20 stages.
Most students in Hong Kong do a recommended minimum of 3 stages (30 units) and continue to 60-100 units.
The duration of each course could be anything between 1 week to 1 year depending on what we recommend for you after your Placement Test.
Yes, but we can do a lot in 6 weeks, but of course the sooner you start learning English with AEA the better your results will be. One of the great advantages of AEA is that our cadet students often attend classes with commercial pilots which is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn about flight operations, in addition to pilot lifestyle. One of our teachers, Brendan is a Senior Captain with Cathay Pacific so you are learning from very experienced pilots in addition to the most experienced Aviation English teachers in Hong Kong.
If you are a current airline employee you will probably be eligible for government funding. The ICAO Aviation English course for Commercial Pilots is very suitable for your needs and will give you a lot of practice of these essential skills.

It won't make any difference. Aviation English Asia train you for genuine proficiency. Although being familiar with a test format will help you feel more confident, there is nothing in any ICAO test that we don't train you to handle. Tests are just tests - no big deal.

We recommend AEA's ICAO Aviation English for Air Traffic Controllers course. You will be able to learn how to comprehend different accents, learn about the role of an air traffic controller and get a foundation knowledge of aviation theory. You will be able to build on this foundation by talking with other students who are already in the aviation industry.

Yes, our courses cover all of the areas that make up Aviation English - Technical vocabulary, Radiotelephony and Plain English in an aviation context.
The balance of the above depends on your needs. Give us a call on +852 81799295 and we will discuss these with you
This is an excellent book for prospective pilots about flying commercial airliners. It explains in detail the basics of their operation, understanding weather forecasts and the stages of an actual flight from Heathrow to JFK. It's particularly appealing for fans of the Boeing 747. Buy your copy from our bookshop for only 14.40 GBP, a saving of 4.59 GBP. Orders are dispatched within 24 hours, so it's much easier than searching through a bookstore in Hong Kong. This book is particularly hard to find, so I recommend getting your copy while stocks last.
Yes, we offer a $250 HKD discount to any friends you refer, and we also credit you with $250 HKD when you start your next stage of 10 units. There may be further discounts available depending on whether a class has a fixed or flexible schedule. Call us and we can discuss it.

This is a great question, and our answer is based on our years of experience training hundreds of successful candidates. Some of this advice comes directly from Brendan, one of our teachers who is also a Senior Captain within Cathay Pacific. Other is advice is from myself, and other advice is from successful candidates and pilots who are working with new second officers.
1. Ask yourself if you really are interested in aviation?
It sounds obvious, but the first thing I recommend that you do is find out if you are actually interested in aviation. Some people might like the idea of flying as a passenger, and playing a lot of golf but when it comes down to actually being interested in aviation many candidates fail this first step. So how can you find out?
Learning about aviation doesn't cost you anything apart from your time and effort - and the best resource to learn some basic principles of aviation is the aviation theory classes we broadcast on our internet radio station Aviation English Radio. This will cover the Basic Aeronautical Knowledge stage of a Private Pilot Licence course. You can also download some very helpful manuals which you can read and study as you listen to the theory classes. This is completely free of charge and is of the same quality as PPL theory courses that you might see advertised in Hong Kong. This course is actually based on an FAA syllabus (the organisation that controls flights in the USA) but the rules of physics are equally relevant all over the world.
2. Find out your English level from AEA (Aviation English Asia)
This is really important. Before you do anything else, contact Aviation English Asia Ltd to arrange an AEPT (Aviation English Placement Test). Forget your IELTS score, or the fact that you spent 3 years in Australia during your university - the scores are not relevant to the specific skills tested in an ICAO English test. Aviation English Asia have a lot of experience benchmarking English proficiency against many different types of ICAO test (some ICAO tests are better than others). You really need to find out where you are on the ICAO scale before you do anything else. Call us on +852 81799295 to arrange a quick 10 minute telephone consultation and then either the AEPT (a 20 minute face to face test $250 HKD, or AEPT+ a 40 minute face to face test $1000 HKD). AEA will then give you appropriate feedback and make a recommendation for training.
3. Make sure you can meet the basic requirements
Ask yourself if you meet the basic requirements, e.g. height, qualifications, health, eyesight etc. Before you invest in aviation training it is wise to find out if there are any difficulties that will prevent you from flying as a commercial pilot. It's best to find out early before heartbreak later on. We have been very sad other of some candidates that passed all stages of an interview but were unsuccessful in the medical examination because they were too short. Others were unsuccessful because they had eyesight problems. An aviation medical should cost less than $2000 HKD.
4. Attend a course with Aviation English Asia
Once you have a realistic idea of your ICAO level you can then plan how much time and effort you need to put into improving your English, e.g. grammar, pronunciation, learning new vocabulary, listening to both aviation-related English and communications between air traffic control. English is far more important than any other criteria in the selection process.
AEA have been teaching the ICAO Aviation English for Cadet Entry Pilots course since 2009. It is the only course of its kind in Hong Kong, and is based on the AEROSTA Framework so you can be sure that it fulfils the standards required by ICAO.
Here is a tip! Almost all candidates who apply to an airline in Hong Kong can benefit from improving their English with AEA. Even native speakers can benefit from our classes to help comprehension of different accents in Asia.
5. Improve your technical knowledge of aviation
As you attend a course with Aviation English Asia you will be exposed to a wide range of topics that are relevant an aviation career. Some of these will be theory topics, some of these will be operational matters, and others will be topics that you may realistically be expected to talk about in English during an interview. Let AEA guide you as to what type of knowledge you should be gaining.
Things you MUST do before applying
1. Listen to our streaming internet radio station Aviation English Radio and download the Basic Aeronautical Knowledge manuals that you can read alongside listening to the scheduled theory classes
2. Get an aviation medical
3. Take an Aviation English Placement Test
4. Attend a course with Aviation English Asia of at least 10 hours (typically 100 hours is required to go from ICAO 3.5 to 4.0)
5. Improve your technical knowledge to cover typical PPL topics.
Things that are RECOMMENDED before applying
1. Attend a course with Aviation English Asia of at least 30 hours - depending on your AEPT results
2. Find out if you like flying e.g. approach a flight school and ask if you can do 3-8 hours of flying (but please beware of HK companies offering this type of package at 3 times the actual cost)
3. Practice high school level maths, physics and get a book of practice aptitude tests (Commercial Press sell them for $60HKD)
4. Improve your hand-eye co-ordination by doing sports and physical activities, maybe even using a computer flight simulator
5. Be a normal social person who is going to be easy to sit next to on a flight of 13 hours
6. Read books about aviation
Things you DON'T NEED to do before applying
1. IELTS / TOEIC / TOEFL or general English courses - they don't address the language skills needed in aviation
2. Aviation theory courses - you can get the same knowledge for FREE, and more conveniently from Aviation English Radio
3. Site visits to aviation companies - not relevant to piloting
4. Study trips to Adelaide - expensive and 3 x the actual cost
5. A Private Pilot Licence - not necessary unless you really want to get a licence that you can't use in Hong Kong
6. A Commercial Pilot Licence - not necessary unless you are applying Direct Entry.
7. Study groups - lots of people that don't know how bad their English is sat around memorising answers
8. Interview preparation courses - there is no secret technique to interview success - just be a normal person
Yes, AEA offers regular short courses to help you present yourself in the best possible way for a lasting impression.
Our Interview workshops help you develop common sense Interview Skills and Techniques. You will also get feedback make sure that your English is of the required standard.
AEA can help you evaluate and prepare yourself in depth for the Interview Questions you will face, so you are not caught out with a lack of structure or knowledge, and most importantly you Don't Talk Yourself out of a Job!
With airlines recruiting again many people are applying for cabin crew positions. One of the most important skills that you need to develop is proficiency in English. When you are facing recruiters and human resources departments they will be particularly interested in your customer service skills, awareness of safety and your ability to communicate clearly in English.
If you are not a native speaker of English then you will benefit from taking the English for In-flight Safety and Service course. We can't guarantee that you will get a job as a member of cabin crew, but we will guarantee that you will be able to better communicate in English and understand people with a variety of accents.
That is correct. Self studying Basic Aeronautical Knowlege is much more effective than attending a theory course because you can learn at your own pace, which is usually much faster than a lecture with hundreds of other students who are probably much slower than you.
Be an active not a passive learner and airline recruiters will appreciate your ability to study. And Aviation English Asia has the best resources to help you, like FREE streaming BAK lessons on Aviation English Radio, FREE Aviation Theory discussion forums, FREE PPL Manuals, and opportunities to discuss these topics with AEA teachers (who include Cathay Pacific Senior Captains).
Aviation English needs constant feedback so its much better for you to focus your attention on improving your English with us, and you will learn aviation theory at the same time as an added bonus.
Most pilots around learn ground school by self study - it's only in Hong Kong that theory courses exist. You will find Aviation English courses are more practical and more useful.
Call +852 81799295 to arrange a consultation and level check, then we can advise you what is best for you.
The most important thing is to find out your English level from AEA before you start a PPL course. English is much more important than a PPL course. After we have checked your level, I would recommend the ICAO Aviation English for Cadet Entry Pilots which is a professional grade course designed to increase your English proficiency when talking about aviation topics such as aerodynamics, meteorology, powerplant and aircraft systems as well as help you better understand radio communications.
To further help with Aviation Theory we recommend that you listen to Aviation English Radio, on http://aviationenglish.com which includes a FREE PPL course.
This question is very easy to answer - Yes. AEA offer industry grade courses which are suitable for professionals and also dedicated people who want to enter the industry. You will be able to learn how to comprehend different accents, learn about the role of an air traffic controller and get a foundation knowledge of aviation theory. You will be able to build on this foundation by talking with other students who are already in the aviation industry. Our courses are practical and focused on specific careers, so you won't be learning about event management on this course. http://aviationenglish.com/english-for-pilots-and-atcos/english-for-atcs.html
Be very careful taking advice from flight schools. While some are honest, a large number of flight schools only care about selling you expensive flight training - and they don't care if you succeed in your career or not, or even fly safely in your local airspace. Flight schools very often don't care whether you can use English effectively because after you complete the flight training you won't even be flying in that airspace again. The English standard that flight schools require for flight training is often completely inconsistent with the standards required by a reputable airline.
And the worst thing is that after taking the $1,000,000 HKD that you saved up for flight training you won't have a small fraction of that sum available to invest in Aviation English.
So my advice is come in to see us and get advice on your level and a realistic assessment of how long it will take you to improve your English - complete that course with AEA and only then start flight training.
ICAO AVIATION ENGLISH IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY PILOT LICENCE
In fact, if you want to apply for Cathay's Cadet Pilot Programme, you don't need any licenses although a few flying hours might be an advantage. This is because the airline want to train you their way themselves. But they WILL NOT teach you English. They want you to improve your English with AEA before you start flight training or even apply.
Great question, the answer is simple - do AEA's AVIATION ENGLISH course which covers English for PPL Ground School and includes a free self-study PPL ground school course. It's fast, affordable and effective.
Most pilots around learn ground school by self study - it's only in Hong Kong that theory courses exist. You will find Aviation English courses are more practical and more useful.
If you want to make a greater commitment to improving your English, enrol in the ICAO Aviation English for Cadet Entry Pilots course, which also includes some of the English for PPL Ground School units.
The best thing for you to do is call +852 81799295 to arrange a free consultation and then we can advise you what is best for you.
This question is very easy to answer - No.
In fact, the biggest mistakes that candidates make is that they apply before they are ready. The second biggest mistake is that they ignore English until the last minute, or they do the wrong kind of English course.
If you attend an AEA course you will know when you are ready to apply. You will also be able to meet other pilots and learn a good attitude to learning.
We only offer courses that are effective so you should take our recommendations very seriously - all good airlines do.
Yes. AEA's HR Interview Workshop, Technical Interview Workshop, and Flight Planning Workshop are perfect for you. Email info@aviationenglish.com and we will keep you updated about the schedule.
So yes, we can help with aviation theory and interview practice. One of our teachers, Brendan has over 40 years aviation experience. I have also interviewed Human Resources managers from major airlines who want to work for AEA.
First of all, AEA courses accurately reflect the realities of flight operations, so if you ultimately don't like it - then aviation probably isn't suitable for you. If it isn't then that's fine - we can't all be pilots. It's better to find that out before you invest in expensive PPL courses. At least you will have better English and that's a good thing.
What you learn with AEA will also have some benefit in your career. So, yes it's ok to do a 10 hour course to see if aviation is suitable for you. But realistically 10 hours isn't really long enough to cover all the topics most people would need to become proficient. Also remember that AEA have offered these courses since 2009 and have hundreds of successful students. The best thing for you to do is call +852 81799295 to arrange a free consultation and then we can advise you what is best for you.
If you want to hear local airline pilots talk about themselves, their experience and how easy it is to join a cadet programme if you just do their course, then you might find them entertaining. But the reality is that your time would be more effectively used improving your English with AEA and learning aviation theory from proper manuals with guidance from AEA teachers (AEA teachers include senior captains with Cathay Pacific).
While private pilot ground school courses have their place, we have witnessed a lot of candidates who had very low levels of English who had taken "aviation courses", spent thousands of dollars on 8 hours of flight training in Australia, yet had never considered to improve their English first. Basically these organisations are often just upselling high price flight training trips overseas - they don't care about if you are ultimately successful or not. Some of the students who came to us after attending "aviation insights" courses had very unrealistic chances of success yet they had been encouraged to spend all their money on flying in Australia. We think this is unconscionable.
AEA is different - we provide professional language training services to actual airlines and airline pilots. Airlines approach AEA for advice. We work closely with all of our students and we become very aware of all of our students needs and difficulties. We do not target the mass market because we are focused on developing career critical skills for high-calibre students. Just look at our success rate >>>
The reality is that if you did want such "aviation insights" you could get it by making friends and talking with AEA students - who include local and overseas airline pilots. You will also learn about pilot's real needs for English proficiency in the workplace.
My advice before enrolling on ANY course is to come in to see AEA to get a realistic idea about your level FIRST and a study plan. Then, after starting our Aviation English course, start reading free flight training manuals and if you have difficulty understanding them consider either (a) AEA's Foundation Level English for PPL Ground School course and theory workshops or (b) a ground school theory course if you have lots of time to fill before making your application.
Remember, in most countries you have to do the flight school's own ground school course anyway. With the money you save you should be able to improve your English and afford 10 hours of flying in Australia!
You should start a course as soon as possible and continue to attend the ICAO Aviation English for Cadet Entry Pilots course until you have reached a target level of proficiency where you are comfortable answering such questions. We can advise you on this target level. However you may need a lot more than a month to prepare, and even though AEA courses are the most effective courses and can give you a rapid improvement - it is better to prepare early.
Yes, we give all students who enrol on the English for PPL Ground School and ICAO Aviation English for Cadet Entry Pilots a FREE Private Pilot Licence Ground School course, along with a question bank, study plan and a forum to interact and ask questions on.
This is the most effective and convenient way of learning, as you can self study in your free time between Aviation English classes and discuss the topics with our teachers and other students in classes and workshops..
Phrasal verbs are difficult for many English learners because it's difficult to see what the words mean just by looking at them.
They usually have this structure verb + preposition but sometimes they have this structure - verb + object + preposition.
Aviation English Asia courses combine both Technical English, R/T Phraseology and General English to give you a solid foundation in English. Phrasal verbs are included in every unit.
Do you know what the following phrasal verbs mean?
In addition to our structured Aviation English courses you should join our weekend workshops focusing on grammar or pronunciation. Although you will improve your grammar and pronunciation during the course, every student is different, with different needs. Some students need more grammar and pronunciation than others, so we recommend all student who have a grammar or pronunciation problem to attend the weekend workshops. They are very affordable and could be the best investment you ever make in your career.
Join our weekend workshops focusing on grammar or pronunciation.
Be careful how you spend your time. The most effective use of time would be to attend one of our courses or weekend workshops which provide a lot of valuable information that is relevant to your career. Developing proficiency in English is a lot more valuable than free lectures and promotional site visits.
There is no evidence that study groups are effective - you might find that your English deteriorates because you are copying language errors from other candidates. Practice doesn't make perfect - perfect practice make's perfect.
We have been training airline pilots and successful cadets since 2008. We are the only reputable provider of Aviation English in Hong Kong. We provide professional grade training to airlines and CADs, not just wannabes.
There is no one in Hong Kong (and probably Asia) with our English teaching skill and awareness of the needs of pilots and controllers working in the aviation industry.
Please be careful of scam companies who copy pages from our website and pretend to be us.
They might be experienced pilots, or they might be English teachers - but they are not Aviation English teachers.
Airline pilot positions can be either:
1. Direct entry - this means that you pay for all the training yourself and then try to find a job.
2. Cadet sponsored entry - this means that the airline recognises that you have the right skills and character to be an airline pilot and they train you, and give you a job after training.
That's a very simple description, that doesn't take into consideration the aptitude and dedication that you need to demonstrate. Luckily, there are some very dedicated people in Hong Kong that have what it takes to become cadet pilots. But one of their difficulties is proficiency in English.
All candidates for a Cadet Pilot Programme need to pass the airline's internal ICAO English test. But English is assessed throughout the selection process not just during the ICAO English test.
Some people will tell you ICAO Level 4 or 5, but what does that really mean?
If you think your English is good because you have an A grade in an exam you'd probably be surprised if you failed the ICAO English test.
But that's exactly what happens to many applicants, who have all the skills 'on paper' but have great difficulty in communicating effectively in English - particularly in speaking and listening.
The Hong Kong education system puts too much emphasis on performance in exams, and not enough on actual functional ability - so almost all of the English schools and language centres in Hong Kong will not give you sufficient preparation for the ICAO English test. We've seen people with IELTS band 8 scores get ICAO level 3 scores in an ICAO assessment. The problem is that general English schools won't give you sufficient practice of the skills that you really need.
Aviation English Asia courses are different
AEA's ICAO Aviation English courses are different because they focus exactly on the skills that you need to perform well in an ICAO test, but also build genuine proficiency in English for your career and throughout the interview and training process.
As you improve your English, you can also learn about aviation and reinforce your technical knowledge. it's what we call 'content-based' learning.
Each unit is officially 60 minutes, which is a standard time for a language class. From time to time we extend units up to 90 minutes, depending on how much material needs to be covered in each unit. We advise students that 60 minutes of high quality practice is much better than 2 hours of low quality practice.
Each unit is designed to give you thorough practice of the language skills you need, and you will be speaking and interacting in English between 80-100% of the time - you will be communicating in English, not being lectured to by a teacher.
Aviation English Asia instructors are professionals who have dedicated a lot of time to both teaching and the aviation industry. All teachers have externally validated teaching qualifications (Trinity TESOL or Cambridge CELTA) - not online teaching certificates. Furthermore, courses are graded to benchmarks, such as the ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements or the Council of Europe Common European Framework for Language Proficiency. This means that you will always be studying at the right level for you, and have a realistic goal to achieve within a reasonable time.
You can learn from experienced airline pilot and qualified native English teacher instructors who really want you to succeed.
Call us for a free consultation on +852 8179 9295 today!
We'll give you a free analysis of your current level and make a learning plan for you, including some free study material. There's nothing to lose and it's risk free.
1. Learning English takes time, and consistent practice - if you start improving your English today you won't need to rush or cram at the last minute. When you attend an English assessment at an airline it will be very different to attending an exam. You are not being judged on your ability to study and memorise vocabulary, you are being assessed on your ability to communicate effectively - and that can't be learned overnight. If you had a simulator test in 3 months time, would you (a) prepare a week before the test or (b) fly as often as you could until the test? It's the same with English, the best time to start improving your English is now.
2. Start preparing while you actually have time - if you have time now, start preparing now. Who knows what unexpected events will happen during the next few weeks? No one can predict when they will be busy, so it's best to start learning English as soon as possible and make steady progress over the coming weeks. Aviation English Asia courses have flexible schedules, so it's ok to change the schedule if you suddenly get busy. And who knows where you will be (or what you will be flying) in 6 months time?
3. You will enjoy learning English with Aviation English Asia - Our courses are interesting, fun, communicative and career focused - they are also proven to help candidates achieve success in airline careers. When learning English is this much fun, why wait? When you learn English with Aviation English Asia you can meet a lot of new friends with similar goals, learn from the experiences of other airline employees (some of them are our students too) and gain valuable advice for your career.
4. Aviation English Asia is based in Hong Kong - you don't need to go overseas to learn English. Learning English overseas doesn't offer any real advantage over learning English in Hong Kong, especially when you have access to a team of experienced Native English Teachers. We'll teach you how to make the most of a truly international English speaking environment.
5. AEA has an open enrolment policy - you don't need to wait for a course to start. You will be able to start a course as soon as you have attended a consultation or taken a Placement Test.
1. Aviation English Asia courses are career focused - if you have ever studied at a mainstream language school you will know that the course content is often not relevant to your life. Aviation English Asia courses are custom designed to give you thorough practice of the language you really need for the workplace. This could include anything from the comprehension of an aviation weather report to handling an in-flight medical emergency. This kind of language is unlikely to be covered with any sufficient depth in mainstream language schools.
Furthermore, courses are graded to benchmarks, such as the ICAO Language Proficiency Requirements or the Council of Europe Common European Framework for Language Proficiency. This means that you will always be studying at the right level for you, and have a realistic goal to achieve within a reasonable time.
In Document 9835 ICAO recommend that pilots and controllers choose aviation specific English courses if possible.
2. Aviation English Asia give you the language skills you most need - aviation requires some very specific language skills that are rarely addressed by mainstream schools. For example, ICAO require that pilots and controllers achieve proficiency in 6 specific areas, whereas most schools just focus on speaking listening, reading and writing - with the aim of passing an academic exam like IELTS or TOEIC.
As ICAO is very different from IELTS, our ICAO Aviation English course gives you intensive practice on the core skills needed to pass the ICAO English test.
The ICAO English test is a very high stakes test and not meeting the required level in one skill-set can have a massive impact on the candidate's career. We ensure that sufficient practice of each skill is given in each unit. As we understand the requirements of the test and our students needs we ensure that you will make real progress.
3. Aviation English Asia courses are affordable - even though we provide specialist courses - our courses are priced at the standard market price for both private and group classes. You might be able to find a private tutor in a coffee shop for $200 HKD per hour but you will probably find that they are working illegally and they don't have sufficient teaching qualifications. There is a big difference in the quality of English Teachers working in Hong Kong, so choose Aviation English Asia and you can be sure that you have the best. Our teaching team consists of qualified, registered teachers and airline pilots with passion for Aviation English.
Private classes with Aviation English Asia cost the same as it would cost to hire a private tutor, but offer a lot more value because we also offer specialist knowledge, guarantee of quality and ongoing support.
Our group classes are also competitively priced and offer more speaking time in each class than many of the other language schools. We know this because students tell us, and our teachers have also worked for many of the major language schools and universities in Hong Kong.
Aviation English Asia courses also have flexible schedules, and it's easy to book classes at a convenient time. Other language schools have a fixed schedule or have a complicated booking system that forces you to wait for 2 weeks between each unit. Aviation English Asia offers students bonus group classes during weekday daytime so now our courses offer even more value.
4. You will still learn some General English, but learning with Aviation English Asia is more fun, more motivating and more meaningful - our courses are interesting, fun, communicative and career focused - they are also proven to help candidates achieve success in airline careers.
To see an example of how General English can be integrated into our courses, visit this page of our blog:
http://aviationenglishasia.wordpress.com/2010/04/10/understanding-past-tenses-plain-english-for-pilots-and-atcs/
Try this mini lesson to see how much more interesting our lessons are than general English courses. For example, you can learn grammar in a more interesting way than you would in a general English course as we teach you in a realistic aviation context. One massive advantage of this is that you will find Aviation English Asia courses more motivating for your career than at other language schools.
Other advantages: when you learn English with Aviation English Asia you can meet a lot of new friends with similar goals, learn from the experiences of other airline employees (some of them are our students too) and gain valuable advice for your career.
5. Aviation English Asia teachers are motivated by your success - there is nothing we enjoy more than watching you succeed. Our teachers have very strong relationships with our students and give a lot of additional support and advice. When you learn English with us, you learn from experienced airline pilot instructors and qualified native English teachers who really want you to succeed.
Finding out your current ICAO English level is an essential step before starting an English course and a great investment in your aviation career.
The Aviation English Placement Test will provide accurate information about your current level. After finding out your current level you can then purchase the required levels needed in order to reach ICAO level 4. This test assesses your listening comprehension, vocabulary and grammar.

We usually offer full time courses in Hong Kong of between 15-25 hours each week. We can help with the visa and also help you book suitable accommodation. If you are interested in this option please respond by email with your intended study dates and we'll make a proposal for you.
The exact length depends on your needs and your budget. Typically overseas learners do 4-5 hours of teacher guided learning per day and then several hours of self study using books or courseware. We also offer a number of social activities and you are certain to have a great time.
There are discounts for group enrolments so you are welcome to invite your colleagues. We recommend contact us to reserve you place as soon as possible.

"In my last ICAO test I found it difficult to remember clearances. Can you help me practice my readbacks and radiotelephony? "
Yes, our courses cover all of the areas that make up Aviation English - Technical vocabulary, Radiotelephony and Plain English in an aviation context.
The balance of the above depends on your needs. Give us a call on +852 81799295 and we will discuss these with you.
All AEA courses are open enrolment so you can start anytime. Call us on +852 81799295 to arrange a consultation as soon as possible.
We have been training airline pilots and ATCs since 2008. We are the only reputable provider of Aviation English in Hong Kong. We provide professional grade training to airlines and CADs, not just wannabes.
There is no one in Hong Kong with our English teaching skill and awareness of the needs of pilots and controllers working in the aviation industry.
Please be careful of scam companies who copy pages from our website and pretend to be us. They might be experienced pilots, or they might be English teachers - but they are not Aviation English teachers.
A number of AEA courses have been pre-approved by the HK government. This means that if you are
1) a Hong Kong resident
2) currently working for an airline or in the aviation sector
it is highly likely that you will be eligible to reclaim course fees from a special fund. The purpose of the fund is to attract and retain more talent the aviation industry in Hong Kong.
The government fund has recognised Aviation English Asia as a genuine aviation training provider. We are the only Aviation English training provider in the scheme.
In order to apply for the fund you will need to complete a pre-approved course with AEA, and then after completing the course (within 4 months) complete the paperwork which we will provide to you.
Yes, that is correct. When groups of 8 or more enrol at the same time you can get course fees as low as $250 per unit. Basically you save $250HKD for every friend you refer, and they save $250HKD too. AEA courses are flexible and students don't need to attend at the same time. As long as you maintain a sensible study rhythm of 2-3+ units per week you can attend any of the 20-25 classes we offer each week.
We have open enrolment but you need to make an appointment to have a consultation before you can be enrolled.
That means we offer courses starting each week but you need to call +852 8179 9295 before you come to our offices. The courses are not free, but we don't mind giving you free advice over the telephone.

All consultations in Hong Kong are conducted by myself, so if you haven't seen me for your consultation it's not really Aviation English.
Great question, and it's great that you are so keen to improve your aviation English.
The simple answer is that (1) for workshops you need to book in advance but you can just turn up on the day without further enrolment, and (2) for classes eg ICAO Aviation English for Cadet Entry Pilots you need to be an enrolled AEA student. To become an enrolled AEA student you need to attend a consultation with us first, and then we will advise you on how long a course you should attend. You can actually choose to do courses from 10 hours all the way up to 400 hours, but you will find that most people in Hong Kong choose to do between 30 and 100 hours depending on their level. This can take anywhere between 7 days and 9 months, depending on the schedule we agree with you in consultation.
We only offer courses that are effective so you should take our recommendations very seriously - all good airlines do.
Workshops are typically between 300-800 HKD for a 2 hour class, and the price of courses will vary depending on how intensively you study and over what duration.
Yes, we can help with aviation theory and interview practice. One of our teachers, Brendan has over 40 years aviation experience. I have also interviewed Human Resources managers from major airlines who want to work for AEA.

If you come in for a consultation and we can assess you and give you feedback. We will probably recommend the ICAO Aviation English for Cadet Entry Pilots which is a professional grade course designed to increase your English proficiency when talking about aviation topics such as aerodynamics, meteorology, powerplant and aircraft systems as well as help you better understand radio communications.
This will certainly also help you in your interviews. Look at this month's special offer for a great deal. If you attend a more intensive course during daytime you may also study alongside other students who are already airline pilots. You can also choose to attend additional Weekend Workshops to improve your pronunciation, structure and confidence in interviews and group activities.
You can check the Weekend Workshop schedule here - http://aviationenglish.com/english-for-pilots-and-atcos/weekend-workshops.html

Yes, we offer intensive courses for overseas ATCs and pilots over 2, 3 or 4 weeks. The exact length depends on your needs and your budget. Typically overseas learners do 4-5 hours of teacher guided learning per day and then several hours of self study using books or courseware. We can also help book suitable accommodation (a hotel on the beach). If you are interested in this option please respond by email with your intended study dates and we'll make a proposal for you.
Definitely not. But we can say that learners who follow our advice do consistently well in ICAO tests. If you are already at good level when you start then AEA courses will help you get a better score. If you are far below your target level then training with AEA will get you significantly nearer to your target level - but probably not enough.
Therefore, if you are mid ICAO level 3 it is best for you to forget about test preparation until you are ready and instead start learning English with us properly. When you are ready you can focus on test preparation.
In order to be allowed to join AEA classes you must attend a consultation in order for us to see whether you are suitable for our courses and have a realistic goal in mind. After your consultation we will contact you. There are classes scheduled at different times throughout the week, and workshops at weekends. It is better to start a class as soon as possible after your consultation because course fees will increase in the future. The workshop schedule is published on our website every month, so you can see those dates in advance.
We do not offer closed group classes, we have an open class which your friends can join. If you refer a friend you can get a discount on your course fees. This will enable you to meet a wide range of people and allow you to mix with a lot of airline industry professionals. This is better for you.
No. AEA teachers have great professional and language teaching skill and deserve to be compensated as such. Aviation English requires an investment in time, effort and money. It is not free. However you might be able to get a discount on course fees through our referral programme. Just refer 12 friends and you can get a free stage of your course
The investment needed for our courses is very reasonable (market rate). However price is not the only cost - the other cost is TIME. Just like going to the gym, you have to work at it and use time and effort wisely. AEA courses are PROVEN TO BE EFFECTIVE.
We don't discuss prices until we have conducted a consultation because every learner is different, with different needs and different circumstances. Call us today to arrange a consultation and we'll recommend a plan that is proven to be successful for many candidates.
